Not a bash or anything, but looks like the D800 and D4 have some issues as well.

http://nikonrumors.com/2012/05/03/n...p-issue-offers-temporary-fix.aspx/#more-39326

D800 and D4 locking up in certain circumstances and some D800 having issues with Viewfinder alignment.

Looks like one problem can be sorted with a firmware upgrade, whilst the other looks like a trip to the manufaturers.

Just for information in case you are lucky enough to own one of these Cameras and unlucky enough to have these issues.

How wildly available is the mk3 in the UK given that they had to fix the current problem?

I went into Jessops earlier this week to see if they had one on display, they didn't, but they were offering pre-orders at £3869... oh dear.

on the jessops website there is 2999 body only , 3689 with kit lens

they are not going to sell the body only for that when every other retailer on the planet is 2999

On that note, I thought I might as well ask here. How come digitalrev has the 5D3 up substantially cheaper than the D800? £25xx vs £27xx

I know they usually undercut under places but why so much more on the Canon than the Nikon?

A lad I work with (PJ who also does weddings) has sent his D4 back for a second time. Can't remember the first issue but the second one was to do with problems with video images.

they come from hong kong so probablly to do with their buying prices being cheaper

I don't know, but it could be one or more of the following...

Canon is supplying 5D's to them cheaper than Nikon.
Canon is able to supply higher stock levels than Nikon.
Demand is stronger for D800 compared to 5Diii.

which is what i said

they buy in hong kong and the Nikon price is probably more than the Canon price for them to purchase

Maybe it's possible but I would say it was very unlikely considering the Nikon D800 is selling way above RRP even for a grey import, and the 5Diii is selling way below RRP.

I think pre-administration there trying to get as many numpty sales as possible.

Jessops arn't doing half bad so I don't think administration is likely.
Their online prices also are completely different to their instore ones for reasons I cannot explain at all. It can be mildly awkward explaining this to people who come into the store aha.

gamer have always done the same thing, retail store prices are more expensive than the on-line store. you pay for the convince of picking it up on the day.

Thom Hogan has a god take on it as always:

Really, so far we have just seen the usual early production issues of Nikon and Canon. Doesn't seem like any of the recent camera have a critical flaw like the Canon 1DmkIII autofocus issue that had serous consequences.

Saw on lensrental the fix for the Canon 5DMKIII light leak is just some black electrical tape, not surprising I guess.

Could be supply-demand issue. The D800 has been selling massively more than ever expected while the 5DMKIII sales are more in line with anons predictions and are somewhat less because people with a 5DMKII have less incentive to upgrade unless they need the AF (in which case they may have a 1Ds anyway). Canon may have also handled the supply better.

^^^
Probably a bit of both. I think the D800 is seeing some extra demand, due to the number of Canon landscape and studio photographers interested in the D800, as the higher resolution of the D800 is the logical progression from the 5Dii, which after all, was about the only selling point the 5Dii had over the lower resolution Nikons, other than Nikon's lens selection was lacking somewhat at the time as well...

The idiotic thing is you can get the online price if you just say collect in stoore or mention you've seen it online at that price....
