hi

i've noticed no games are able to fully max out my 3 gpu's, and only Heaven DX11 Benchmark 2.5 is able to nearly max out all 3 gpu's in some places.

any idea why?

is this normal?

or

could it be bottlenecking somewhere?

im using 1920x1080 mostly but sometimes 3840x1080

You have almost £1000 worth of gpu's and you're complaining about them not being maxed out? I would say most games just can't use all of the gpu power.

stop rubbing it in gareth :) at 1920x1080 i would be very worried if your 6990 couldn't max out any game.
What games have you been trying out? im finding it hard to find something i cant max out with just a single card (im running at 1690x1050 though)

i'm not complaining has the 6990 was a gift from amd.

i just wanna make sure if thats normal or something bottlenecking.

It's normal. You just have too much GPU power for that resolution. Overclock your CPU a bit more and you might see some improvement.

i guess i could try 4.1ghz but i don't think it'll be stable.

surely if it's too much GPU power for that resolution it'll just give more fps than needed.?

even if it bottlenecs probably all cpus would bottleneck some more some less @ those resolutions specially @ 1080p , you should able to max pretty much everything without maxing all gpus.

same as me i cap my 6970 at 121 fps in games in game such as team fortress 2 or so my gpu usage is around 20 ~ 35 % .

4Ghz gpu is MORE than enough for ANY resolution, if you have a single 6970 thats say capable of top settings in one game at 60fps, but you're getting 30fps, because you're running some old dual core at a low speed, thats cpu bottlenecking.

If you have 3 gpu's running at 160fps in some game at 1920x1080 at max settings but they are only using 50% gpu power on each card, officially that is "bottlenecked" by the cpu, because the cards might be capable of 300fps, but it doesn't mean you'd seen ANY improvement with more cpu speed, 160fps is more than enough.

The key thing you haven't said here is, are you getting BAD framerates in certain games, or great fps and lower gpu usage.

Bad framerates is an issue with your setup, nothing to do with bottlenecking, and a big issue. Running at 150fps but not using 100% of the gpu power available just isn't a problem and gets filed away with other such problems as "my wallet just doesn't have enough space for all my £50's".

So firstly really the question is what is the actual problem, because as yet you haven't stated whats wrong.

Tried metro yet? :p

max settings, getting 127fps+ , but sometimes drops to 68fps~

Get a i7 sandy chip and whack it to 4.6 if you're concerned but what drunkmaster said is right. Unless you have a 100Hz monitor then you'll not see any "issues" with "only" 60+ frames with everything maxed out.
