hi, im not sure if this is the right section or what exactly it is i need/want so i will try to explain as best i can.
basically what i want is something that has drop down lists linked to a database or something that runs locally and not hosted on the net.
i want it so i can select stuff and it then adds the prices up to give a price and text output of what was selected.

i know im not explaining very well, sorry.

A few ways of doing what you describe. Depending on the scale I'd go with Microsoft Access or Excel.

Excel is probably the easiest. Use a few pick lists and some simple formulas to total it up.

my knowledge on both was ok about 10 years ago but havent really done anything in access since then, and excel, well i make the odd spreadsheet with forumlas for calculating our bills and stuff, but only basic adding and subtracting stuff.
how would i go about adding drop down menus in excel? do i make a spreadsheet with all the items, prices etc on and then link the menus to them?

ok i have worked out how to make the drop down box in excel link to the table of the name, but how do i then get the value of that automatically copied too?

right, well after reading through some tutorials i think i have it sussed. well the inputting side, just need some way now to take the info and make it into something more presentable.
