I bought a CM Elite 130 case to fit a R9 280 and i5. I chose a Corsair Builder series 450W PSU thinking it was fully modular but sadly not. The case is also bigger than I was hoping for.

Any recommendations on a case that will fit a 280 and modular PSU, but smaller than the 130? In terms of cooling, I'm going to be using an external CPU and GPU water loop so the PC can fit inside my av cupboard.

Going to be honest mate, theres not many cases smaller than that..

The smallest really are these (with their own PSU's)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Silverstone Sugo SG07 HTPC/Gaming Windowed Case with 600W Power Supply - Black (SST-SG07B-W USB 3.0) £161.99
1 x Silverstone Sugo SG06 HTPC Case with 450W Power Supply - All Black (SST-SG06BB USB3.0) £119.99
Total : £291.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Or this, which you can use you're PSU in but its only fractional smaller than the 130:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Silverstone SST-SG08B-Lite USB 3.0 Sugo Mini-ITX - Black £111
Total : £119.70 (includes shipping : £7.25).

The SG08 Lite measures: 222mm x 190mm x 351mm
The CM130 measures: 240mm x 205mm x 377.5mm

The SG06 is: 220mm x 177 mm x 286 mm
And the SG07 is the same as the SG08 LITE.

Thanks for you reply. I'll stick with the CM. It's a good case but I was hoping for something smaller. Annoyed I didn't get a fully modular PSU as there is not much room for unnecessary cables. I think using an external WC should keep it nice and cool and near silent. Off to the MM!

What about the SG05? with a SFX (450W) modular power supply.

I do however believe there is an error in the description because for just £39.95 you get a 450W bronze PSU included...

"- Mini-DTX / Mini-ITX motherboard & SFX PSU compatible
- 80 PLUS Bronze certified SFX 450W power supply included
- Standard-length expansion cards support (9 inches)"

Comes in at only 222 mm (W) x 176 mm (H) x 276 mm (D)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Silverstone Strider SFX Gold 450w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply (SST-ST45SF-G) £89.99
1 x Silverstone SST-SG05BB-Lite Sugo USB 3.0 - Black £39.95
Total : £129.94 (includes shipping : FREE).

There is also a short cable kit for the Strider supplies, if you don't fancy shortening the cables yourself.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Silverstone SST-PP05-E Short Cable Set For SilverStone PSU Strider Series 100% Modular £19.99
Total : £19.99 (includes shipping : FREE).

Love the CM 130 myself, and it isn't THAT big to be fair considering the components (about an inch or so bigger than the Shuttles). I must admit though, it was a bit of a squeeze for me with a full-on 1000w (part-moular) PSU :D

If buying this case, DEF get a fully modular psu - It'll help

Hadron Air is good but expensive, £150. Bear in mind it includes a vey nice power supply though, looks great, and is probably the smallest case that will hold your 280x.

+1

Plus you could recoup some of your money by selling the case and psu. I was thinking of getting one myself but need to resist!

It's exactly the same as the SG06, just with a flat plastic facia, instead of that stupid aluminium belly.

The short cable kit is actually longer than the cables that come with the 450W modular PSU, so don't waste the pennies!
