A man has died after being struck by a bus in Edinburgh with police asking the public to stop sharing distressing photos and videos of the incident on social media.

The 74-year-old was hit by the single decker in the city's busy Cowgate area on Saturday at about 19:25 .

A number of roads were closed and people in pubs were asked to leave the area.

Footage and pictures which later circulated on social media suggested the man had suffered catastrophic injuries.
BBC Scotland News reporter James Delaney, who was near the scene on Saturday night, said an extensive police cordon was quickly set up.

He said: "Inside were two forensic tents, probably about 100m apart.

"The Cowgate is usually jumping on a Saturday night, but the bars and pubs inside the cordon had been closed.

"We saw about a dozen or so people in white forensic suits, and there were a few guys in suits too who I assume were detectives."

Apparently hit by bus in a 20mph zone and got decapitated, I'm trying to figure how that's even possible as apparently the body and head were just randomly found in the street, some drunk halloween lads even picked up the head thinking it was a prank before obviously realising it wasn't while one just randomly T-bags it ?

This is the weirdest incident! Took the police nearly a day to even acknowledge a bloke was dead. No sign of a bus in any of the photos. Bloke just seemed to lie there for ages too.

Back in the day I saw a CCTV of a guy on a bike who got flattened by a bus and his head just exploded and rolled Infront of a women walking her dog.

That must have been grim to see in real life.

It will also be interesting to see what the bus did or what the elderly man did to end up in this horrid situation.

A lorry driver recently got a suspended prison sentence for riding over a kerb and what he thought was rubbish in a bin bag which later turned out to be a homeless women who was killed.

Government should put a size limit on vehicles that can enter busy area's. The big companies get away with it as it is cheaper to send one large vehicle instead of two smaller ones.

Seems the BBC updated the article

A man who died from catastrophic injuries after being hit by a bus in Edinburgh was killed on a “hostile and dangerous” street

Well that explains everything

The 74-year-old man died after being struck by a single-decker bus in front of revellers on the busy street, packed with late night bars and nightclubs on either side, on Saturday evening.

I still don't quite understand how those lads didn't know it was a real head though

That’s just beyond messed up. It’s crazy to think that people can be so insensitive, especially in a situation like this. It definitely makes you wonder what needs to change in these busy areas to keep everyone safe.
