I know some people who defend Vista tooth and nail wont be pleased, but this is objectivity not fanboyism (or the fact they just bought it).

Lol, I actually used this scenario as a parallel to the incompatability of dx10 and older OS'. It wasnt so far fetched as I imagined!

if they are too lazy to click the save as > word 97-2003 button they dont deserve to write a review.

Review? What review? For business Word compatability is a big issue. I also have it handy as Im sure most do on their home pc.

Could see this one coming a mile away. It's one thing for home users, but there is very little to zero cost/benefit for any business to upgrade their old XP/2000 systems.

Why fix what ain't broke?

MS will learn a tough lesson from this one.

most os upgrades are like this. office 2007 is fairly good as the new format will eventually be used/usable by any office app, which is better for compatibility, as said you can save as a old format anyway so whats the issue.

but this is the point, business's don't use games at work, or they don't want their workers too anyway and won't have a decent gfx card in, they are computers normally just for word processing. if you're a gamer, and most of us are and for most of us gaming is the most intensive thing we use our computers for, what reason is their not to upgrade?

why go from any old office version to the newer ones, can't even remember which versions, but surely office 1990 version created a word document with all the simple options that are all that most people need? increased usability, better layout are just nice options, being able to type a document is all thats normally needed in the workplace.

most upgrades are want over need, why would intel want to spend £100 per copy of vista for 5,000 users for basically no reason right now? they are also the companies that didn't upgrade to win xp for the first year. most huge huge companies take more than 6 months to use something like vista.

Even that's not necessary. In Office 2000-> onwards, you can open the new file formats. Trying to open it will just link you to a web page that lets you download an update that introduces Office 2007 file format support into older versions.

In terms of Vista upgrades, no businesses ever upgrade at launch. Hell, loads are still using Windows 2000.

That Office 2003/2000 actually serves an organisation well.

And that despite the ability to have upgrade to office 2007 for free as part of the licensing agreement that the costs of retraining staff and implementing the upgrade just isn't cost effective. I imagine a cost analysis of implementing office 2007 would have to be undertaken. I also imagine any IT manager would be up against the wall to provide any tangible benefits of migrating to office 2007.

Is the ribbon really that good it's worth retraining staff for. I doubt it.

And the last organisation I was in the PC's were just about capable of running XP.

I reckon by the time an organisation comes to upgrade its PC hardware if its currently capable of running XP then Vista will be long superseded.
