Hello, i usually use dual screens i Got a 3rd monitor today a dell one i plugged it in (1 monitor is vga one in hdmi one in dvi) my catalyst picks it up but when i try to enable the monitor i get "to extend the desktop a desktop or display must be diabled " obviously i dont want this as i want triple screen, any help?

As I understand it, you need an ATI 5-series or higher card in order to enable a triple-screen setup ("eyefinity")? Alternatively you can use a wide variety of nvidia cards for the same thing, but will need to have at least two operating in SLI.

This is definitely the case for gaming, but perhaps there is a way to get a triple-screen desktop without using eyefinity or nvidia surround.

Ahh ok, no problem should be getting a nvidia 470 in the near future anyway :) thanks for the reply

In your case, since you don't want to game on the three-screen setup you could perhaps consider another ATI card, such as a 5870, a 6870 or the soon-to-be-released 6950/6970 instead of a dual 470 setup. The dual 470 setup would be pushing towards the limit of your PSU, and for a single-screen 1080p resolution a dual 470 setup might be slight overkill.

Of course, if you can afford it and the PSU holds out, a dual-470 setup would be very fast for gaming, and would allow you to run a triple-screen setup at very good framerates in a lot of games. The 470s are also cracking value right about now...

I would like 3 screens but i dont want it that much to go and buy another card(sli), thanks for the advise tho! i will just get a single Gigabyte GeForce GTX 470 OC ( think thats the best one?) for gaming

Okay, but you will not be able to use all three monitors with a single GTX470... Hence the reason I suggested an ATI card (since they allow you to use three monitors with a single card).

Ahh ok il stick with getting that 470 as i heard it was better than the 6870? as it would prefer a better agming experience than 3 monitors..
