Hi, people have said my new ram should work with my new motherboard but befor i open the RAM i want to check so i can return unopened if not.
I only just realised and not sure if any one else did but i just re-read the spec list for my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P) and saw:

Support for DDR3 1666(OC)/1333/1066 MHz memory modules

The ram i bought is OCZ Reaper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-14400 (1800MHz) Tri-Channel
I already know it wont work as tri but i only noticed the lack of 1800MHz in the MB listing :-S
Please help, thanks.

(ps, this mother board should fit in a coolmaster HAF case right?)

i think itd would run, but not full speed, higher end boards support 1800
up to you i guess personally id go get some slower stuff but different people have different opinions.

hopefully one of the lads on here are knocking about and will be able to help soon ;)

it will most likely just run it in dual channel mode and under clock those frequencies buddy.

I'm using the OCZ 1866mhz stuff on my P5Q3, triple channel in a dual channel board, works fine ;)

n1blo is probably right - i have higher specced memory in my pc and i run it under stock - it's not usually a problem

For peace of mind just ring the OC's sale line and ask about it's compatibility with your mobo - the guys on the phone usually know their stuff plus you've covered yourself if it all goes t*ts-up.

Thanks guys :-)
I will give them a ring to check, their number free/landline rate?
Only have a mobile, dont wana get rapped lol.
I'll email the equieries too.

Gonna put it all together tomoro night, so hopefuly some of you will be lurking on here.
Wheres the best section to post for a quick responce if i get stuck tomoro?
1st build/proper pc, so i dont know much, e.g. how to under or overclock (hides in shame)

:-)

So how do i go about underclocking them? Got a good piece of freeware for me to use?
Mucho mucho begginer here, so more straightforward the better.
Thanks.

Set the memroy in the BIOS.

Once the BIOS screen is in front of you go into MB Intelligent Tweaker - and check to see first if the timings are set to what you need.

If not - change the 'set memory clock' to manual and change the 'x memory clock' to frequency that you feel your system/memory will tolerate.

Than apply the same principle to the DDR 3 Timings - change it to manual and set the timings again to a your sytems/memory needs.

The only other thing to check would be to see if the DDR 3 memory voltage is set within tolerance - it's better to pick the middle ground here even when underclocking.

I know this sounds a lot - but it's better than using a windows app to do it. Plus you get to understand your sytem a bit more.
