anyone know if there is much of a difference between Comptia A+ PC Maintenance and Troubleshooting and IT Essentials Cisco,

I fancy doing some sort of a night class come September (thanks to these forums I've kinda got hooked on poking about inside pc's) and can do either of these, just can't any info through google as to which is the better?

any advice, even if it's to say they are both pointless, would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

well it is mainly for my own information that i'd like to do a course of some sort. that said, it would put me in a pretty good position to ask my current employer for a significant pay rise as i am responsible for the day to day up keep on a number pc's, albeit very basic ones, that drive laser marking machines. tho most of what i have to do is simply follow the instructions over the phone of a maintenance/installation enigineer

I've only done the A+ and Network+ so can't really comment on IT Essentials.

I took them only for "Customer comfort" logo on my business cards but that's all.. I got myself through the exams by reading through Mike Meyer's Passport guide and flew through the exams.

The books are only about £20 maybe even cheaper second hand.. Grab a copy, read through and see what you think. A lot of it is legacy stuff that you'll never really need.

Keeping up to date is much harder.

i actually have both of the course content books already, must have a squizz at them!

At my college where I done IT essentials, it lead on to do the A+ they are the same thing :D.

when you say it lead on to A+, do you mean that you had to do IT Esentials first then moved onto the A+ course?
