Hi all. Haven't been on here for ages but wouldn't ask any other forum. In my current rig I have an i5 2500k with 16gb 1600 ram and a sapphire 7950 3gb oc with boost.
My question is I've always wanted to try crossfire out. I'm just curious about it. I've read that I can crossfire a Tahiti 7870 with my card.
Will it run and still have the 3gb vram or will it down scale and only use 2gb vram? I can't find any benchmarks for this crossfire setup. Any links to any benchmarks would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Steve

Considering the price of a second hand 7950, why would you go for the tahiti 7870? I've seen both a vapor-x and a WF3 for ~110 posted.

I've seen the price. I actually got my 7950 for 90 free postage on eBay. I was just curious as if I could get a great performance with not quite as much power consumption as 2x 7950s. So will the r9 280 crossfire with the 7950 fine?
I do want to try crossfire as I'm sure most "next gen" games coming out will support it and from what I've read and seen the drivers are getting a lot better as they do with the demand of new setups and technology. I don't want to spend to much and I'm watching a Tahiti 7870 that's currently at 29.99. Sometimes you get a bargain with auctions and you never know. Lol

I would look for another 7950, ive tried mixing cards in the past and whilst it worked results were never as good as using the same cards
