Not sure my c2d is working properly

hey all, just looking for a little help!

this is my first dual core..so im not sure how it works or how to know if both cores are working.

I took a screenshot of everest ome edition, and it looks to me like its only reading from one core but reading hyperthreading?

Take a look;

See at the bottom where its got the utilization listed, it looks like its just reading from one core

Can someone clear this up for me?

Try using CPU-Z -

try intel thermal analysis tool. it will give you the option to put load on both cores. also is it the latest version of everest?

theres my CPU-Z reading, the gray bit at the bottom, arent you supposed to choose the different cores if you have a dual core cpu?

i just got the intel analysis tool, seems that the two cores are working

also, im on xp home...will that make any difference to my cores?

Thats how it is supposed to be, you have 2 cores not 2 processors

Nope, XP home is fine for dual core, as microsoft license per processor socket not per core. (although once you go to quad core things become a little more 'grey'). Apparently QuadCore intel works, but AMD 4x4 is to sockets, so in theory would need XP Pro.
