For the past few weeks a problem keep occuring whenever i boot up my rig, i get a brilliant white screen that will not go away. i can hear windows booting so i assume it's not a bios or board problem. I also don't think it's the graphics card. (HD5850) as the times when i can get past the white screen (involves a lot of shouting, swearing, and rebooting / fiddling with the monitor cablesthen suddenly it will come on) everything is fine. Games run fine, no corruption ect. no random reeboots, it's weird.

Cant work it out. If it's anything i would assume my moniitor is dying but i dont have another spare and nowhere to test another at the moment.

Any ideas guys?

You could try another cable. I'm afraid the only way to eliminate the monitor is to swap with a known working one. Do you have a friendly neighbour?

Make sure the GC is tight and secure in the slot. Check power and communication cables too.

Sorry i forgot to mention that i had done that. swapped out cable and power lead but same result.

As Huddy has suggested a test monitor would be the ideal - if you can borrow one.

How often does it do this?

You could try booting in to safe mode a few times - if it's successful everytime you could be looking at a driver/windows issue.

Have you tried uninstalling gfx drivers and installing the latest ones?

If you have a TV with a HDMI port, you can plug it into there, otherwise, like the others have said, you will need a test monitor.

It does it everytime from a cold boot, i can do a normal reeboot if the computer is on and it will be fine, will restart, post and load up windows without a problem. I have not tried updating to the latest drivers yet but i will give that a go soon and see if it has any effect.

Unfortunatly i have neither :/ my old tv had a fault and so i took it to the skips and at the moment no one i know has a monitor i could use. I could take it to the local computer shop and see if they will plug it in to boot and hopefully they wont charge for it :)

Going to get the latest drivers now and see how it goes with them.

Swapped out old drivers for the latest ones but didnt seem to have any effect. :( Ill see if i can get a cheap crt from local shops as thy cant be that much now.
