Comp has just had its third birthday last week.

Now, when I switch on my comp, on the initial startup screen where you see it detects, the cpu + ram hard drives etc. It detects the CPU, then where the ram is normally picked up instantly, its very slow to detect, then everything else starts up as normal. Im going to running some checks on it. But, basically, any ideas on anything else it could be? As i've not had anything like this happen before dying mobo? dying cpu?
I'd rather not replace anything as yet if i can help it, was holding on for bigger upgrade when something like ivybridge/bulldozer comes out.

(the screenie isnt my own comp, just a googled one)

incase anyone interested, spec -

abit ip 35 pro xe mobo
550w corsair PSU
Q6600 cpu (overclocked)
4gb ram
60gb SSD
3x500gb HDD
ATI HD5850 gpu

sounds more like the cpu is on its way, how long have you had the cpu OC'd.
Theres a fair few q6600 threads popping up had various problems, mine to died 2-3 weeks ago after 1 year stock then 2 years Oc @ 3.4

Ram seems fine, checked each module, and ran memtest for 1/2 hour with no probs so far. Am planning to do an overnight run of memtest though later.

The cpu has been overclocked from first boot up, I think im going to reduce my overclock to stock and see how things go. I've been looking for an excuse for a fresh build, but didnt wanna be forced into it yet.

go on be forced you know you want a Sandy :P
i went from a q6600 Oc @ 3.4 ( died) to 2500k and wow really chuffed i did now :)

ive just gone from a q6600 & 8gb ram to a i7 920 with 6gb ram and love it.

but to be fair my q6600 was still playing all my games and didnt show any signs of slowing down.

Give it a right good clean, take it all apart (if your confident) and just give it a spring cleaning, pop it all back and see how it goes. Also get a new mobo CMOS battery and go through BIOS settings :)
