Hi guys, I'm getting a nice little £600 rebate in a few weeks time, and I'm itching to buy a new rig.

Now all I'm asking, is it actually worth it?

I have at the moment:

Phenom II 955 @3.8ghz
Gigabbyte 785gt Mobo
4gb XMS3 1600mhz
GTX570 - Which I will move forward to new rig.

Thinking of going towards the usual 2500k etc....

Any ideas? Cheers.

Well you won't need to spend all of that if you did.

You can keep the RAM aswell as the graphics card and just replace the motherboard and CPU. (maybe the cooler if it doesn't have 1155/1156 fittings)

Something like:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £179.99
1 x MSI Z68A-GD55-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £124.99
Total : £304.98 (includes shipping : FREE).

£300 left over for some more upgrades... or xmas pressies... nah, upgrades :D

As far as a comparison goes:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/88?vs=288

Everything is benefitted by it, but, does you rig struggle at the moment? Or can you wait untill April for the new round of Intel processors or will that money disappear into the ether?

Thats a good idea.

You can always add another 4GB of RAM as it's cheap now.

I don't see you really need to upgrade usless you feel your rig is struggling with the tasks you use it for. If it is struggling the upgrade above will be perfect.

Hmm good ideas mate. It's not really struggling as such, but I would like to buy now for the future whilst I have the money available.

And yes that money will be spent on some other junk I don't need, the possibilities are endless:D

If you really want to spend the lot you could go to 2011 but personally i'd go for a 2700k, mobo and gpu or maybe even watercooling as the 2700k runs really really hot.

What res? I'd go for the 2500k with a really good mobo then and another 4gb of xms.

Spend the rest on WC/SLI/droolworthycase

Yeah I was thinking of WC with the spare change, and a nice 650D or something.

I think you'll struggle to put together a nice loop for the £300 you'll have post cpu and mobo. It's probably doable but you'll have to compromise a bit.

My vote would also go to a 2500K and motherboard. I'd get an SSD with the leftover cash if you don't already have one, another 4GB RAM, and maybe a new case if you're feeling like one.
