I got a Netgear WN121T to go with my DG834N for christmas. I asked for it because I had dreams of my wifi being as fast as 270mbps.

I'm only getting 144mbps max and normally 78mbps according to the netgear software and the adaptor has direct line of sight to the router.

Anyone have experience with this kit? Am I doing something wrong or is this all you really get?

It's as bad as broadband companies stating 'up to' 8mb!

78 Mbps over wireless is pretty damn good, and no you were never going to get 270 Mbps. Maybe if you lived in the middle of nowhere with no other sources of RF interference you'd max it out.

Thats not bad you know, and you have the advantage that you are seriously degrading everyones G wireless network if they are in range..

Bonus!

How are you finding the N router from netgear? I'm moving to N sometime in the spring/summer as I do a lot of network sharing now so would like my machine to be able to handle the speeds and also if I upgrade to VM 50MB later in the year can make use of it.

Just trying to find the best N router for cable which is the problem!

I've had 4 DG834Ns so far on Be connection, and they have been generally very good and stable however would say that they aren't the most robust in the world. First one got knocked off a shelf by a clumsy friend, but got working again after taking to bits and voiding the warranty. Others have had wireless failure after a slight knock or even falling on their side. Other than that, the coverage has been good.

I bought the WN121T last week as well, however it seems to hate my Vista 64 pc and drops to 1Mbps / DCs on games where it works fine at 240+Mbps on my girlfriends XP machine..
