Had a **** morning today, went to feed the cats and clean out their enclosure. One of our queens is due to give birth in 10-14 days and is the size of a house right now. Or at least she was. 
She's never had a problem with any of her litters, maybe the runt would die as nature took it's course (too small, illness, etc) but never any serious problems.
This morning i found 4 dead newborns, she hadn't even cut their cords. All we can think of is that the recent weather has spooked her and she's gone into labour very early and then abandoned them knowing they won't survive as they're too young (they were all small)
We've brought her indoors to fatten her up and to keep Dave away from her (if she's not feeding kittens, he'd be after her again as she has that "fertile" aura on her now). She's going around the house calling out for her babies.
