....new build wont work.

so my original spec was a p4 3.06 GHz on a p915 chipset mobo with 2GB DDR1 7600GS 430 Tagan.

not great but not horrible, for me.

so scrounging around i got a p5n-e 2x1GB Corsair XMS PC206400 and an E2140.

so i put the mobo and ram and CPU together and the light for the mobo shows up, but when i turn it on, nothing on the screen shows.

i have done many build before for other people, but this was a first for my self.

the build would turn on, fans power up, HDD start, but no output to the monitor. tried VGA DVI, and otehr cables.

i put the gfx back in the older computer and it showed, so thats not it.

all cable checked, rechecked, and rerechecked.

i ahev tried a new PSU, and an older one, same thing....

i have used one stick of RAM on each slot, and then tried the same wit the second, to no avail.

also the mouse and k.b never turned on either.

any help?

do you have both the power connectors in from the PSU? I had the same thing the other week and couldn't figure out what was going on and i had forgotten the small square connector.

Try begging, stealing or borrowing other ddr2 ram to see if there's a problem with, not enough volts going to your ram to fully post. If all parts appear to be working elsewhere then it could simply be this issue or an incompatibility issue.

i got all connections in. even the 4pin cu one.

i dnt know anyon ho has ddr2 ram, caus either they have a laptop or a 2 year old comp

only thing i can think off is that your ram is DOA. would explain everything. if you could try the ram in a different pc ? also give a try reseating the cpu/heatsink + fan . its also possible something is up with your mobo what is it btw ?

the mobo is a p5n-e.

i think its the mobo, because it wont power the keyboard mouse, although it does the mobo led and fan.

also, i got no beeps.

ill call some mate to ask around tomorow, but i doubt he has DDR2.

if only i knew what the problem was.

and i re seated the CPU this tme with AS5, no luck.

Sound like a borked board.
Eliminate all the other parts by trying a diff cpu, diff ram, diff gfx and psu.
If all that fails, the board is dead.

There is a remote possibility the bios doesn't recognise the cpu and you need to flash the bios, but it sounds like a dead board due to the lack of beeps ( u sure ** speaker is plugged in fine?).

non of them do...:(

should i RMA the mobo and RAM?

they are second hand though, mobo from ebay, and ram from here in the MM

nip down to the purple shirt place and get a a 256mb ddr2 ram chip cheapest possible saves wasting postage on sending the mobo back if its not broken i expect youll have a no fault fee which is usually around £30, thats what id do anyway

Also try powering up with the mobo outside the case just to confirm you don't have a grounding fault. When you do this make sure you just use the essentials ie Gfx and ram and nothing else, + if you have 2 sticks of memory try both individually.

i have done that all to no avail.

BUT i have some headway made.

i tried the purple shirts (as they are down my road), Breezy, AMAZING idea, i never though about it :).

and that RAM i got didnt work either

now im 100% sure it is the mobo. ill never ebay a component again. :(

time to get a refund and a search through the MM :)

and the mobo has already been registered with asus :( so if the seller dont comply, paypal will help me (i hope)

The guys are probably right in saying it could be a mobo issue, but i remember buying generic ddr ram (£90) and then upgrading shortly after to an abit nfs7 and then with the exact same issues occuring.
Turned out it was a compatibility issue with the ram i was using. ie. it was crap lol.

Now im not saying saying that it is definitely the ram but purchasing crap(generic) memory from the clowns in lilac shirts could still give the same results bearing in mind that all parts have been working on another machine.

Its more than likely that the keyboard/mouse wont power up until the bios cycle/check begins or completes so this may not be indicative to the problem.

Just a suggestion, but do you remember who it was you bought the ram from on MM?. Perhaps you could ask him to check the ram and on fault ask for a refund? Either way it is not the first time I've heard of Asus and Corsair issues. If all else fails bearing in mind you dont know me from adam i would be willing to test your ram for you and send it back to you the next day. Look at my rig i dont need or want it and I aint gonna steal it. Its just a genuine offer from someone trying to help.

np dude, shame its the mobo thats gone, thats got me out of trouble a few times :p

i contacted the MM RAM seller, he said send them back or a refund or send them back and hell send them to corsair for an RMA. nice guy. but when i found out it was he mobo, i think ill keep the ram.

now im looking at MM for a £40-£50 p35. hopefully someone has one to sell. i have put up a wanted.

thanks for everyones help, you lot have been brilliant.
