Hoping someone can clarify something for me.
My 2 year contract has just come up for renewal with Carphone Warehouse. Normally I upgrade now but I'm quite happy with my 6S Plus.

I expected the monthly payment to reduce since I'm not paying for the phone anymore but they insist it will remain the same (it's around £60.00). Is this correct?

One other thing which bothered me, I said I might switch to Vodafone since they appear to give better reception around here (tbh I've found O2 sucks and I'm amazed in 6 years I've not changed already!).

When suggesting this, the Carphone Warehouse guy said 'you do realise you'll be credit checked when going to anther provider' - in a tone like I should be worried. What a weird thing to say!

By default, you just carry on paying the same.

Shop around for a sim-only deal, assuming the phone isn't locked to its network (and if it is, then request an unlocking).

(I say all this having no knowledge of iPhones - I'm Android only, and assume it's the same sort of setup)

Like anything, they will continue to charge you as much as they can get away with.
If your contract is up definitely shop around.

They're definitely pulling a fast one! See this webpage for instructions on how to get your iPhone unlocked so you can use any network SIM. I would suggest you then usse a comparison site to find the best SIM only deal available which has your required amount of data, minutes and texts. If you're not sure of your usage then contact O2 who will be able to supply your average usage. Don't forget to use a cashback website such as Quidco or TopCashBack when signing up to SIM-only! Here are the current cash back rates for vodafone with Quidco.

You signed up to a minimum 24 month term, after that it essentially turned into a rolling contract.

It's up to you to make the next move: Upgrade it into a sim only or a new device, leave it rolling (At £60 please don't do this) or cancel it.

A few years ago now, my provider (EE) called me when my contract finished and offered me a sim only deal £8 for 5gb (was a tablet). Much better than the £40 i was paying.
Just go to the provider and cut CW out.

Yup, was on something for £45 a month, after the contract ended, rang up directly and now on the same package for £8 a month, but no new phone.
