Not using your car because it's too nice

I avoid using my car as much as possible. It makes it more special when I do use it. I walk or cycle short journeys, and take the train if the route is OK (i.e. going to London.)

The scenario in the OP just sounds like the guy leases his car and probably cheaped out on the amount of miles per year.

Leased so he knows any damage he will pay a penalty when giving the car back on top.

after my journey yesterday down a totally inadequate road which had stuff scratching down both sides of the car it makes me realise I don't think I fancy taking it to places in Devon or Cornwall on holiday. in that sense having a car I didn't care about was actually a bonus and allowed me to actually enjoy those sorts of roads (and admire the beauty of them).

I genuinely think it may make me consider where we go on holiday as taking the wife's car would not be an option.
other than that.... if I knew it was a dodgy area I would probably take the wife's car.
shame as you buy a nice car (or I do anyway) to enjoy driving it,

I kind of had this when i had my Impreza and an old Yaris i used to commute to work, i used the yaris for work but for any small local journey too, even went on holiday up to the lakes in it.. ended up not even starting the impreza for a month at a time sometimes.

My reason was mostly financial though as the Impreza was so expensive to run but i loved doing track days in it. In the end i sold it on and got a nicer day to day car instead and just stopped being able to do track days, but i do still miss the Yaris :( the Impreza not so much.

My “nice car” has no roof so I prefer to use it when it’s not raining. Also not that roomy for all the kids stuff, so we tend to use the Korean bus instead.

Tbf that's understandable, the difference the op is talking about is when people are claiming their "nice" car is supposed to be a daily despite it only leaving the garage for its monthly detailing session.

You get that with many things though, when to you see a Rolex that looks like the owner actually did anything with it or actually used it as a watch lol

This is why my daily/shopping kart is an old Kia with dents pre-installed. It's funny how people give you space when they think you don't GAF .

TBH nothing coming out now interests me all that much and it's getting harder to use the fun stuff with all the cameras and potholes. So I'm probably going to sell up at some point and go back to one car. Something moderately priced but comfortable. Then dump the rest in to my mortgage and cut about a decade off it.

Personally, I wouldn't be able to put up with driving off the driveway in a c-rapper on a daily basis knowing that I could've driven the enjoyable car... so I have an enjoyable car and no c-rapper - and just do what I reasonably can to "protect" the condition of it by parking away from the brainless masses and not under trees, etc... Sure, it's upsetting when someone damages your property, but not as upsetting as waving goodbye to your pleasure every morning in my humble opinion

But it's used for going on to town and public carparks, where the masses are. The nice car still gets used elsewhere.

My senario is somewhat different, because I retired early than planned mine is hardly being used and I 'm having to take it out for a weekly run. It gets used when we go away but for shopping trips we use the fiesta. It's costing me £250 a month plus taxing it is £570 yearly. If my insurance gets hiked in September I'll flog it as I've equity in the car, however I'll be quite sad as it's a lovely car to drive..

I used to be careful parking my old e38 away from other cars etc as I didn’t want any dings in its panels but other than that, it was used daily in all weathers, I could have used my then partner’s Focus but why bother when the BMW was lovely to drive, I was always careful to not park in too rough an area though.

I now have an old Volvo V70 which nobody gives a second glance at, again with remarkably good panels so I still tend to park it away from other cars where possible although I really like the not having to care one bit about where I leave it aspect! :D

Mines an average car but i am careful about parking, for instance i buy multi use just park tickets for New Polzeath instead of the free parking that everyone fights over with surfboards constantly being moved about and narrow spaces.
works out about 90p per 24 hours rather than the £10 the tourists pay and i get a nice big space.
I see new expensive cars crammed in the narrow spaces i mentioned and can only assume they are company cars as they dont seemed at alll worried
