Not what you would expect

I have laptop that I am clearing out for a friend who was unable to get internet access.

After removing all viruses and malware internet access is back to normal but for some reason I can't ping anything beyond the local host and the router.

I have never come across this only the opposite.

Any suggestions?

You can ping anything on the internet? That's not unusual...

firewall or security software stopping ping replies from devices not on your subnet?

No, standard windows firewall all at defaults.

Cant be router, my other machines work fine.

Weird, but everything else seems fine.

Have you tried LSPfix?
