Not worth buying DDR1 anymore?

I'm noticing that the price of DDR1 second hand is about 1.5x the cost of DDR2 new. So now I'm thinking I'll stick to 1Gig and drop a little extra on a graphics card instead.

Is it fair to say there still aren't many games that will use 2gig?

Cheapest branded 1gig DDR1 at OcUK - 65 for the GeIL. Roughly 50 squid to buy 2nd hand from a popular auction site (which I'm beginning to loathe, since the end prices are so damn close to online e-tailers you have to wonder what the attraction is...)

2gig G.Skill DDR2 currently < 100 quid. And you aren't buying obsolete kit, which is nice. 2gig branded DDR1 from OcUK 111 squid, or (amazingly) at least that much at a popular auction site. Again, why people pay so much for second hand stuff I have no idea.

I guess I'm just bitter that I couldn't find a bargain...and now I've just burned my tongue on a grilled cheese sandwich. And Man U are pounding Reading :( Good game btw.

Depends where you get your 2md hand gear from

I got 2 x 1gb of Corsair 3500LL Pro for £100 a bit back,

DDR is still worth buying as if you don't have an UberRig or much money(Like me), then timings will be better for most things, as opposed to clock speed and DDR has lower timings than DDR2. It's also getting rarer by the day so prices are skyrocketing, but they have dropped a lot recently (past few weeks). I guess there was winter rush for it which sent prices really high.

Well what I might try to do is pick up a single 1GB stick. Then later on add another 1GB stick. Dual channel is nice and all, but I can't drop 120ish on 2gig right now. What's dual channel anyhow, 5% extra? More?

I guess I could get lucky and find a matching stick... unlikely tho :p Even if it's the same manu and same product number, it could be a later revision, and that could prevent dual channel from working, right?

[edit: did I say 120ish? Looking at OcUK, cheapest 2gig they have atm is 170ish... Boy did I choose the wrong hobby for a poor person :p]

Yep I agree BF2 runs like a pig with 1gb ! need 2gb. Prices are stupid though !
BF2 was the game that prompted me to go to 2gb. I thought I had an internet connection issue with the game until I discovered it was the system running out of memory and the HDs thrashing that was causing the stutters. 2gb fixed me right up. I have 4gb in my gamer right now even though it's a 32bit OS.

Corsair stuff's a bit pricely like though !

Yeah, unfortunately it is and I have no control over pricing. Every time I suggest they lower the prices I get funny looks

US pricing has recently dropped quite a bit on DDR2. However, this price drop will likely not affect DDR1 stuff the same as DDR 2 due to supply and demand. There are virtually no high performance DDR ICs made these days and those that are available are VERY expensive which makes the end price very high.

I hope I'm not going to upset anyone by asking, but what price does 2gig DDR1 tend to go for in the MM? Don't have enough posts to look myself...
