Thought I'd swap the default Intel 2200BG Wireless Adapter with an Atheros one instead and I've just stumbled upon a major problem.

As you can see, the black wire is short by about 1.5cm. :(

With the previous Intel adapter, the connections on the Mini PCI card were further to the right. Also, the longer white wire connected onto the left connection.

Had a slight tug on the black wire and there appears to be no slack. How on earth am I going to get that AUX wire in?

Could I just get a small wire made up and use it to bridge the connection? Is it possible and would it effect signal strength?

I thought about completely taking apart the laptop and having a further look inside. Maybe I could swap the wires over? Obviously I don't want to be spending an afternoon doing that.

Swap the two wires over. It doesn't matter which one goes onto the 'main' or 'aux' connector.

In fact, you don't even need the second wire connected. The card will work just fine with just the 'main' aerial connected.

Antenna Diversity.

The laptop (wireless card) should use whichever of the two aerials (if fitted) has the stronger signal. Quite often 1 aerial is in the vertical plane and the other in the horizontal. Helps to keep the signal constant. Depends on wireless card and driver compatibility along with an access point or similar with the same setup.
