Hello,

I am helping a friend buy a laptop PC. His budget is £700.

I am wondering if any notebook enthusiasts have any advise.

Thanks for any assistance.

Depends on what he is looking for, but for a pretty good all rounder,

I've just bought a Samsung R20. I paid £499, but that was a sale price, it's usually about £599.

Mine is: Intel Core2duo 1.73 Conroe, 2gb ram, 120gb hd, ATi Xpress1250 256mb, DVD/RW, 14" screen, windows vista home premium.

I'm really impressed with it, and it came highly recommended by... the one high street store i trust, the one that is famous for best customer services, and is never knowingly undersold. It came with a 2yr warranty. Which to me was an unadulterated bargain.

Looking at lappies on sale, that's about the best option i'd say

Thanks for the advice, will have a look at the R20 and shop around :)

Don't foget to look at dell, especially their vostro range which is pretty competitive imo, i spent ages looking at different makes before i decided on mine and this seemed to be one of the better options, i liked how easy it was to customize them, as i wanted a good resolution etc. and it was hard to get elswhere.
