I've all sorts of stuff to rectify the problem, just ran Tuneup Utils to set the laptop to max performance, with no change... but possibly worse

Reinstalling the drivers hasn't helped - i would try to download new drivers, but a i can't yet as i need to register on the Toshiba website, but as this notebook was donated to us, im haven't yet been able to get the date of purchase for the laptop.

Could this be anything other than driver related? The spec of the pc looks good enough to me.

Cheers

Make an imade of the disk and run it in a virtual drive, if it works fine then its the DVD drive, if not perhaps its the player you're using.

Could be a driver issue or just buggy software amongst other possibilities.

Quickest thing to test we be alternative DVD playing software, VLC is quick and easy, and free... ;)

OK so I mounted an image from my desktop (over the network) and it played perfectly using WinDVD, PowerDVD, Nero Showtime & WMP11.

I'll have a look for this VLC thing, but i dont think its anything to do with the player

Good point, id not thought to try a music cd..... stutters also, maybe the driver is knackered :(

One other thing, does anyone know where i can get the driver for the Radeon, im on the ATI website, going round and round getting no where, found a page about it: Radeon® Xpress 200 but no link to the driver. Do i just need the 6.11 Catalyst?

Been there but, is it any of these?

I found the card name last night listed under 'Integrated/Motherboard' so downloaded it and tried to install it this morning, but it is not compatible.

Always hated that ATI site, so confusing - glad my desktop has nVidia :p

I got the laptop specs from Everest - very handle piece of software that!

I reinstalled the original drivers, no joy, but the owner of the laptop has left for England today so she can get the drive looked at when she gets back to old blighty!

Thanks for all you help and suggestions, appreciate it, but theres nowt more i can do here, puter has gone.

Cheers ;)
