On my new laptop, whever i boot up the wireless is turned off by default. I have to press the function key and f7 to turn it on each time, then it automatically connects to my wireless network.

I have checked the bios and all lan options are enabled including "LAN at boot" and ive checked the vista power plans to see if thats turning it off to save power. No luck.

There an option somewhere that im missing or is this a driver/hardware problem?

What kind of laptop is it?

My Thinkpad has a sort of location sensing network profile thingy which only powers on the wireless when it needs to.

its a "MEDION AKOYA MD 96850", if i go into mobility centre after booting with the wireless still off the option to turn it on is greyed out making me think its disabled at a hardware level and not something the OS is doing. If i use the hotkey on my keyboard it then comes on and after that i can turn it on and off in the mobility centre.

I did do a fresh install of the laptop as soon as i got it, had a lot of preloaded crap and a stupidly large recovery partition that i wasn't too fond of.

I copied all the drivers from the partition and installed them all. Dunno if this issue is anything to do with the fresh install as i didnt really use it before i wiped it, so dont know if it was the same.
