Is it me or is Notepad just useless at search and replace and other functions?

I'm sat here doing a replace on a 365kB file which is taking ages when sed on a unix box takes less than a second?

is my box borked or something? :( Can't believe a Core2Duo rig can take so long at replacing a string?

I use dos for find and replace, its 10 times quicker than notepad

yes i no im living in the past but hey.. it works ;)

Cheers chaps, great replacements.

Excel works just as well also... d'oh, should have thought of that first :) The algorithm in notepad is slower than any bastardisation I could possibly write in shell :o

So frustrating not having awk, sed, tr etc at home :p

Install cygwin?

Good point actually - I had it on the old PC, but for some reason it seems like an untidy installation to me.

I think when it comes to Vista crunch time, I will probably just install OpenSolaris seeing as I don't play games any more :)

Wordpad

Does the same in my opinion without installing anything else. They both have their uses I'm just not sure what Notepads is :D

Whoop

notepad is useelss for anything more advanced than a shopping list.

I admit that I often use excel to if I have to search and replace in a text file with no notepad improvement handy.
