Notifications on forums

Notifications sounds good...sometimes threads can get so huge subscribing to the thread doesnt help.

Perhaps for the Dons/moderators only but a system where they can mark user's (sorta like a cattle prod :D) that only they would see but would help them remember troublemakers e.g. it could say underneath the name of the poster or somewhere more appropriate X user has 3 infractions currently and has been suspended 2 times, banned 1 time. And user's names or posts appearing in different colours in terms of the level of mischief they are known for (green, amber, red)

They already have that. They can also write notes in your profile page that you can't see. Gossip!

This sounds ... unappealing.

No. What makes this forum great is that we don't have all the carp that you find on other forums so leave it as it is.

A 'Thanks' or 'Accepted Answer' would be okay, I don't really like rep systems where people will give negative rep if they don't like a person and such things. Notification for quotes and thread replies would be good.

Please no to the OP. Fed up with change on all other sites I go on. If it isn't broken please don't fix it.

Indeed. Some user notes make for an interesting reading :D

The new AVForums look doesn't work properly on my work machine, and actually looks like a printed, text-only webpage from the early 90s.

Screw that. I like OcUK because it's simple.

A YouTube shortcut icon (like the spoiler one) would be welcomed though

The only notification id like is to tell you when youve been quoted on the forum

sometimes i ask questions in a thread that i forget to check :(

Just type your username in the search box, same effect.

Edit: Unless you was referring to email notification than ignore what I just typed.

Hi guys.

Just seen that a very big forum which is based on audio Visual items has had a big refresh.

Many new features, I especially love the thanks/like/dislike/agree icons and the notification bar (like facebook) wonder if they can be applied to OcUK Forums.

Not the only large forum that moved to XenForo this weekend, a particular student doctor based one did also. ;)

I personally did the SDN conversion, and consulted on the AV one before handing it over to one of my colleagues to handle :)

vB3 is EOL. Upgrading to a new system is sensible. Also, people are relucant to change, yet, like facebook, after they moan for a while they accept it and learn to love it.

Compared to XenForo, I find vb3 *extremely* lacking, on "basic" features.

There have been a few issues, however none of them are related to the XenForo core, they are server and custom application related. They should be worked out in the next couple of days.
