All,

This is my first post on this forum, so hello!

I have virgin cable at home (315Mbs) ish and happy with it apart from the WIFI..

So I invested in 4 x Nova MW6 system and again very happy with it!

A question though..

I have the following configuration.

Virgin V3 router has WIFI turned OFF but DHCP on and linked to a 1Gb Hub 192.168.0 range, this hub has my NAS boxes, a pc and other items and when I do a speedcheck on speedtest.net I get 280+ speeds!

Now the MW6 master node is connected to the Virgin V3 with a Cat 6 ethernet cable from its WAN port.

This then gives my WIFI devices an ip address of 192.168.1 range as this is deemed by the NOVA DHCP.

I run a speed test on a WIFI device on 5G and lower connection and it is hitting 20-70 only..

Any ideas??

Cheers

Andy

The apparently low speeds I don't know about. Have you tried the normal things like checking for the least congested channels and selecting them?

The address ranges should be easy enough to fix (if you care).

Option 1 - configure the mesh system into AP mode (assuming it has one) so everything on the network will be on the 192.168.0.n subnet.
Option 2 - put the Virgin hub into modem mode and have everything connected to the LAN side of the mesh system on the 192.168.1.n subnet.

If I understand your setup correctly, you see 280Mbps on your wired connection and 70Mpbs on the wireless mesh. Is that correct?

If so, I would expect those wireless speeds from a 2.4GHz connection. This could be happening for a multitude of reasons. Without doing a proper site survey all I can do is offer suggestions for testing.

1. Turn off 2.4GHz b protocols (11Mbps and 22Mbps).
2. Turn off 2.4GHz completely on clients that can handle it (modern phones, tablets, laptops)
3. Force the clients to switch to a nearer access point by switching the WiFi on and off. It may be that your wireless clients are not wanting to roam and they’re hanging on to a slower, more distant signal.
