So - sorry to drag you all into the past, but just need a bit of advice...

I have a 4690K on a Gigabyte Z97X-SLI board. Historically I'd used the Gigabyte app to overclock the CPU but I've had to uninstall that app as for some reason it conflicted with the Radeon control panel. So - I'll now need to do this 'by hand'. I don't want to set the world (or my PC) on fire with massive increases - so is the following an acceptable and safe approach as a starter for 10....?
1. Set CPU clock ratio to 40
2. Turn off Turbo Boost
3. Set vCore to 1.2V
and then see how warm/stable things are and increase from there?

Sounds about right. I actually have that board and chip so could probably look at my settings for 4.2GHz.

I wasn't too careful with the voltage though as it's under water, so heat is less of an issue.

I also had to turn off Intel speedstep/EIST or whatever its called now, it steps down when theres no load on the cpu. I always found this caused problems for me when setting CPU voltage to a defined setting rather than auto.

Interesting, I haven't looked closely but mine clocks right down when idle. The voltage drops too to something like 0.85.
