Hi all,

Have posted in the win 8 rp thread too but I now have a different problem. So before:

I had win 7 installed. Upgraded to win 8 cp fine. Needed to reinstall cp so did and this reinstall is where I started having problems. It would occasionally just lock up on me. Didn't display any error messages it just froze. First of all exporter would stop working (although I could still use open apps) and then eventually I couldn't do anything except move the mouse. And the only way out of it was to reset the computer.

Now I could live with that's it only happened every couple of days. But then I decided to upgrade to the release preview so installed that fine, but then these lookups started happening a lot more frequently (about every 2-5 mins) exactly the same problem.

So I decided to reinstall it just in case and now I can't even seem to install the bloody thing! It installs and then when it boots up for the first time at 'preparing system devices' the screen just goes blank and it stops responding.

I have tried reinstalling about 50 times to no avail have tried with just one screen keyboard and mouse still no luck.

Any ideas what I can try?

System specs are:

i5 2500k
Asrock extreme 4 z68
570gtx
9600gt
12gb ram
Crucial m4 128gb ssd
And 5 various screens

So yeh help! :(

Cheers

just attempted an install by usb stick instead of dvd and i get a different error:

0xc0000225

file: winload.efi

and then when i go back to reinstall it appears to have only copied over 8gb of files instead of 12gb which it normally copies and i get the other error

anyone?

and i think it could be a hardware problem... i've installed windows 7 and it now won't boot... get a blue screen on startup with the error code:

0x0000000A

so now any ideas? really irritating :(

Reseet the bios, unplug anything that shouldn't be plugged in. Possible on compatibility problems?

will try resetting the bios, I did try without my overclock (but i only reduced the multiplier and didnt reset the whole bios)

I have tried with everything unplugged except 1 screen, keyboard and mouse.

Well thats what I though with windows 8 but now that windows 7 doesnt work... I've sort of ruled that out seeing as it was fine in 7 before

I have managed to boot into safe mode and going to try clean installing the lastest nvidia drivers as I've read that that stop code can be down to drivers.

I also ran memtest and it didnt show any errors...

Don't install any drivers try use the out of box ones for now.

yeah thats the point... it doesnt work with the out of box ones.

it wouldnt boot into windows. the only way i could get it to boot was in safe mode.

tried installling the new nvidia drivers and same problem

just trying resetting the bios now.

nope hasn't worked same problem screen goes blank after the starting windows boot before logon screen and reboots

Then it's 100% compatibility problems somewhere.

Try with less RAM.
Try with onboard graphics (Remove the 570).
Try with 1 screen.

I don't understand how it can be compatability?

I have had this pc running win 7 since october and had it running windows 8 cp since it came out fine.

Only now has it been kicking up a fuss

Is the Crucial m4 128gb ssd the only drive you have in the PC?
if not, disconnect all other drives and try installing again.

sometimes when installing the O/C windows gets a bit messy and installs MBR files on other drives which causes problems.

get windows working before installing any other Drivers if possible.

i also noticed you got 12gb ram, what size sticks are they because i think Z68 boards run dual channel ( ie 2 sticks or 4 sticks )

hmm I will try installing with my data drive unplugged.

This is really confusing me because I don't know how it could be a compatability problem seeing as i haven't changed ANYTHING, nothing at all.

This is why I was leaning towards it being a hardware fault having developed.

I don't see it can be anything else as it has survived multiple installs before with the exact same hardware configuration.

and I have 2 4gb sticks installed and 2 2gb sticks installed for RAM

sorted it finally!

Realised that I had changed one thing, I had made my two storage harddrives dynamic and turned them into a spanned volume. So I unplugged both drives and tried the win 8 RP install again and hey presto it worked!

Have now plugged the drives back in and imported them as foreign disks and it seems to be working fine.

So clearly win 8/win 7 dont like to install if you have dynamic disks present. Weird because i did the same thing with WHS 2011 the other day and it didnt care that I had dynamic disks..

Oh well
