Planetside 2 is to incorporate in-game one click streaming.

SAN FRANCISCO — Twitch, the world’s largest video platform and community for gamers, today announced its partnership with Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) to integrate live broadcasting functionality into SOE’s upcoming games. The first video game title to feature the ability to stream gameplay directly to the Twitch platform with a single click will be PlanetSide®2.

the question is, why would you want to and who wants to watch? Is this going to be really all that useful or are we going to see the ability to broadcast your gameplay become something taken for granted, which everyone does and nobody watches?

I didn't fancy playing Planetside 2 last night, so went to bed early but logged into one of my outfit members Twitch streams to watch them play from my laptop.

Most streams are saved as well so if you have some epic moments in Planetside 2, which we all know happen often then it will be nice to have them saved.

what a waste of bandwidth but hey its just more fuel for egotistical plebs who put every other aspect of their dreary lives online thinking people give a toss!

No idea. theyve got a sample screen in the link which has some barely readable details about choosing fps - set at 30, screen quality - set at medium and something else. But details are sparse.

Some funky server side stuff would be nice.

The majority of people do not have rigs capable of doing encoding on the fly with suitable bandwidth.

Nothing will change, the people who stream will continue to do so, most likely using whatever software they currently use.

I imagine a few people will use this "feature" but seeing as no one will want to watch them, they won't last. There are already far too many people streaming and uploading videos of pointless uninteresting garbage that nobody watches as it is.

If that were the case, no one would watch them.

A lot of people don't understand the concept of streaming, but "egotistical" has nothing to do with it. Me and my mates streamed when we played DayZ, LoL, BF3 and a whole host of other games. We do it because it's an easy way of getting footage of the game (which we can later download and edit if we're making review videos, frag videos etc) and we can interact and have a laugh with the hundreds of people that are watching us.

Then you get the people that are monetizing it and making money purely by streaming - the likes of Kungen, Towliee etc - but even then I wouldn't say it's egotistical...
