Fed up with my sony TV not being able to do 'catch up' TV other than iPlayer, and with the way the beeb are changing things, it won't be long till my TV won't do that either (like my sony blu-ray player)

I'm not interested in Netflix or Prime... Anyhew

I thought I'd ask you guys your opinions and recommendations on which box/stick to get

Now-TV or Roku, what is Plex?? or Amazon fire stick or a Chromecast (I'm gonna get a Oneplus 3T to replace my Lumia 830) what are Android TV boxes like, what's the best one??? :D

My head is gonna explode!!! Don't want to spend too much (especially after getting the Oneplus)

What do you want to do exactly?

Not wanting prime or Netflix, 2 of the main uses for such devices.

Why not upgrade to a smart tv? Do you wish to stream films from a NAS/server?

Chrome casts are good but can be a pain the backside at times so I would'nt want one as my sole solution, as are Android TV boxes.
My vote would go to a Roku streaming stick for a simple turn on and go type player but the interface on them is very marmite (in appearance) so make sure to check that out before buying.

PLEX is a client for polling & streaming personal media from a single point of origin to multiple devices without the hassle of setting each on up individually, in simple terms its a posh DLNA server.

Really just want to use catch up tv, iplayer, itv hub, 4od and demand five... uktv play would be a bonus, as would youtube.

I only really have £50 as a max (could push to £100, but the wife would kill me)

Not wanting to stream from my computer, as its already connected by hdmi (albeit 10m away from the PC) for Kodi access to my movies and winamp (yes i know) for music.

plus the tv can do dlna

Its just a faff to use the pc via a browser to access the above services!

Nowtv is your best bet then, cheapest solution and is a great box.

Don't buy the original as it's wifi only, the black one is ethernet and they do a new smart one too.

One of the benefits from having one of these devices and using Plex (or Kodi) on them is having a remote.

Plugging your PC into your TV (even with an HDMI cable) is so 10 years ago as these devices handle playing your video and music content perfectly and have the added flexibility of meaning you can use your PC while someone else consumes the content.

Anyway, a Roku in your price range would be my suggestion.

While I'm heavily invested in the Amazon kit (and I use Prime video) the Roku devices are more flexible and user (children/wife) friendly by not forcing your to use your phone to control it like the Chromecast. Although I suppose it depends how tech savvy your family are.
