Now that the Now TV box has no Plex, I was looking for a like for like option to replace it - basically my missus liked to be able to stream content from the house PC direct to the TV.
Does anyone have any information please - the amount of different stuff out there now is bewildering to a simpleton like myself - the sky promotion team tell me the new sky q+ box can stream content in a similar manner (I assume I copy it to the HD in the q+ box) and they are basically offering it me for no extra cost and free installation.

Any advise is gratefully received.

Regards
Scotty

Rasplex, either with a simple USB remote or a RemotePi board. I have 5 running locally and 2 running remotely. Never had any issues with them.

Yeah, I have had plex running on Amazon sticks, and roku sticks. They are both quite slow for my liking though. So I usually use my xbox ones instead. I find them to be quite good for this stuff, with all the added benefits of being proper games consoles with BR drives if I need them, and when I had nowTV a couple years ago, there were nowtv apps for the xbox one too, so only needed one device. Not as neat an option as the little sticks though, but a single device to do it all. And they work well enough with the media remote. I haven't actually used a gamepad in over a year (I don't actually game on my xboxes).

Raspberry pi is what I'd go for. It's the fastest of all the smaller devices I use. Firetv sticks have gotten horrendously slow lately since the updates. Rpi is nice and simple.

was that a roku3 or roku2 4205 ?, earlier ones are slow. (I posted videos on OC earlier threads showing 4205 speed)

the new roku express 3900 is £30, and although only 1080p, has same processor, and 50% of ram as the £80 4K version, *IF* it does hevc too though, could be interesting.

You can pick up an old xbox 360 for around £50. full surround, 1080p, plex, plus all on demand apps etc.
xbox remote £5. A bit big, but it makes your tv a smart tv.

Or keep the NowTV and run Kodi. Let the box do the processing rather than the computer. That also means you don’t need the computer on if you get a HD and plug it into the router (or a proper NAS device).
