Its a roku 3 but with the Now TV firmware. It's quite a lot quicker than the original box, and looks much better as it's black! :)

Side loading Plex is the same as the original and it works flawlessly. Been using the new box for about a month or more now and love it. Browsing movies etc is much better with the new firmware (which is also on the original boxes now) so overall it's a great box.

Sadly the films on now tv are still only in stereo. :(

Been waiting on this for ages, iPlayer crawls on the current box so a speedbump is welcome.

Does anyone know if it's based on the newer (2015) Roku3 or the previous gen one?

The lack of 5.1 sound for Now TV is just insulting in this day and age.

When you compare the prices Now TV charge compared to the likes to Netflix, it really doesn't stand up well.

If you have Now TV movies and entertainment it is £17 a month. £17 a month for 720p with stereo sound.

Netflix and Amazon prime both offer 1080p and 5.1 sound (Dolby Digital Plus).

How have you had it for about a month dude?

They sent out boxes to Sky Traillists.
The new box has been announced for a couple of months now its nothing new.

Apparently there is another version due Christmas which supports 1080i/p

Not sure if it's just a problem today or if it's a longer term problem but I've not managed to get anything to play on iPlayer today...

It's based on the new gen roku 3, looks exactly the same, USB, Ethernet and micro sd slot, even reports as a roku 32, just runs Now TV firmware.

As someone mentioned, I got one sent to trial, been working nicely, mainly using Plex via wifi and it's played back everything really nicely, including DD, DTS etc, picture quality also very nice.

Not tried doing anything with the USB or micro SD slot so no idea if they do anything as yet

I'm not 100% certain (as I use 720p) but I think this box also supports 1080...I'll have a look in the settings when I get a minute.

Edit: Just checked the settings, and as I thought you can select a 1080p output. I think the Now TV films are only 720p though.

I think this is actually based on the previous gen Roku box, as the model number is 4200SK (compared to the old Roku model 4200EU/A). The current gen Roku 3 box is 4230EU/A.

Shouldn't make too much of a difference, and still well worth the £15.
