To cut a long story short, i was running an app on my pc to check & get rid of virus's & trojans etc, when after a while it seemed to hang & not do any thing, so i thought id reboot & try again. Now when trying to boot it gets to the blue background with windows xp written there with the flag type thing but goes no further, the mouse pointer is there & i can move it about.
I have tried using the recovery console to get it to start with no luck, i have tried the FIXBOOT cammand but it didnt help, but tbh i dont really know what needs to be done here ?
Can anyone advise me as whet needs to be dona so i can boot up again please ? Im running windows XP.
I have also tried loading in safe mode & last know configuration that worked, but still no good.

Hmm 'tis bad this. Can't even get into Windows to fix your PC. I presume you have access to another PC hence your post?

If you can, download something Knoppix/System Rescue CD/Ultimate Boot CD.

Then burn them to CD/DVD and run them as Live CDs. They should boot OK and then you can use the utilities on them to scan your PC for trojans etc.

If you can't get into Windows then I can't really suggest any Windows tools to use. Try one of the above CDs and see if you can fix the hard disk that way. If you can then try booting into Windows and finish off the cleaning. If they don't work then it might be time for a format to wipe the whole disk clean.
