Just a quickie, I have now sorted my Plex Media server and all is good. The only issue I seem to have is that every Plex App for all most platforms requires a Plex Pass. I installed it for my Sony Bravia TV - Requires Plex Pass, I install on PS4 - Requires a Plex Pass GRRRRRRR Now I have a NowTV box for my mum to access my media but will I need a Plex Pass for that to work?

Think you only need a pass if it's being streamed some where other than your home network, or Via the Sony apps, I used to use my NowTV box around the house fine with out.

Think there is an issue with the plex pass on the app, check their forums as I thought it had been resolved but lots of people were complaining about it.

You are correct that the PS4, Sony Bravia and Xbox One apps all currently require a Plex Pass subscription as these are relatively new releases i.e. within the last year.

When I originally tried Plex on my NowTV I had to side load it as there was no official app.

I think this is still the case, and as such you will need to follow these instructions:
http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/08/sky-now-tv-plex/

Like others have mentioned though if this is being viewed remotely you WILL need a Plex subscription BUT you'll only need a free one as far as I'm aware.

To use Plex remotely you need to at least sign in so it can connect to your server.

Also, all things considered, I personally think £120 for Plex is a good price. I'm lucky that I got it before it doubled in price but it's still a great piece of software I use EVERY day.

I am able to use Plex already on my work PC with no issues. Just login via the browser, hit launch and there are all my films. Obviously there isn't a browser on the NowTV so I was going to sideload Plex on the NowTV box but wondered if it has the same Plex Pass Requirement as my Sony Products. I will get it sorted and report back.

I am not saying that £120 is a lot of money but it wouldn't be difficult for you to pay that then something better comes along and even though you have a lifetime sub its worthless because you are not using it.

I know that Plex on Chromecast and on Samsung TVs doesn't require PlexPass, and works outside the home network just fine - I have all my parents set up with it!

I use PHT on my laptop when out of the house. As long as you have logged in (Plex Pass or not) it works. Also have no issues using it via a browser outside of the house.

That's the info I am looking for. I have tried it outside my house via a browser at work and it functions with no problems. So I just hope its the same on the NowTV but I will get sorted at dinner and confirm.

I dunno why Sony seems to be a problem tho...

What about Plex on Apple Devices? I see that you have to pay for the app on the ipad but does it still allow it to view remotely without the plex pass?

I think you'll find Plex on the NowTV will work as expected.

Plex on your iPhone/iPad costs £3 or whatever and yes, you can view remotely without Plex Pass.

If you don't want to have your parents etc to screw with your "On Deck" if they're watching other things, simply set them up with their own account, and share your library with them.

Cheers for that. That's the guide I am following and I have the latest Roku Plex 3.10 ready to install. I tried it at work at lunchtime but our proxy/firewall wont let me access the Roku service. I even was going to try and add a static proxy/firewall bypass but couldn't see anywhere to setup a staticip. Will get it sorted at home tonight.
