I'm having a bit of an issue with people VPNing in.

Occasionally when they VPN in we see some odd DNS issues where the DNS server starts reporting the IP of the domain/vpn server as the IP the VPN client has been leased.

This obviously causes some issues.

I'm not sure where to even start looking.

Are you using Windows Server RRAS? If so you can check out the server specific and range specific settings (DNS, DNS Suffix, DHCP) for your remote access users in DNS (Assuming domain based VPN). A common error is to assign non-specific (generic) IP addresses which are used both on your own network and the network you are VPN into. i.e. 192.168.1.1 is already taken on your local network, therefore the 192.168.1.1 is not accessible on the VPN.
