We have one for connecting the network to our Topfield digibox, running unslung off an ancient 8Mb usb disk. Only software on there aside from the OS is the ftp daemon for connecting to the digibox, tried installing dropbear for a bit more security than Telnet but there isn't enough space. I might try rebuilding it with my 128Mb usb disk sometime.
dont use dropbear, it sucks. use openSSH. then use it with putty. far more secure. and from what i have been told, quicker and has more features.

don't see why not. at the end of the day it wouldnt hurt to try.
i take it you have done the old 133 to 266mhz trick?

I haven't, just reading about it now.
very easy to do. all i did was cut the solder joint with a stanley knife and made sure that there was no resistor lying arround.
doesent make much if any difference to the temperature.
but makes it a whole lot quicker.

Telnet on my slug has fallen over aswell, ftp daemon is still running, but its going to need a rebuild anyway, looks like.
just out of interest, you are aware that you need to re-enable telnet everytime the slug restarts dont you?

I thought I had followed the steps to permanently enable it, but it the web interface it was disabled - that was the problem.
if you set up openSSH you will never have that problem ;)
