Ciena just concluded a 100G backbone trial with Vietnam Telecoms National that spanned 500 kilometers, connecting the cities of Vinh and Danang.
All this talk of 'backbone' connections is rather misleading; the UK equivalent of the Internet2 project is the Joint Academic Network (JANET) which connects academic institutions across the country. As far as I'm aware that has backbone connectivity up to 40Gbps at the moment (with 2x 20Gbps ports at LINX last time I checked), but obviously actual bandwidth varies across the network.out of interest, what is our backbone?
we are connected to JANET at work, fast is understatement
