Not sure if this is the right place to post but anyway heres my issue. I have a 500GB disk I use as storage in my windows 7 desktop and I want to use it as a boot disk in a server2003 machine for mucking about with AD. I formatted it when I got it as one 50GB boot part and one 450GB storage in the 2k3 pc, then stuck it in the win7 machine to use as storage temporarily. Now Ive plugged it back into the 2k3 machine and it boots up fine but the storage part is shown as RAW filesystem. I really hope its not since it has all my media on it
The only thing I can think might have changed is that it wouldnt boot with the SATA controller set to AHCI when I put the drive back in so I switched it to IDE. Im fairly sure I had it this way when I installed though so I dotn see why it matters, it only switched itself back to AHCI because I have no CMOS battery in the 2k3 comp.

So anyone got any bright ideas please?

Quick update, I stuck the drive back into the win7 PC and i can read the storage part but not the 2k3 boot partition, although they both show up as formatted and healthy in Disk management. Could this be a permissions problem?

Yeah I know lol, wouldnt be the first time Ive lost my stuff cos of some idiot idea I had. It reads fine in win7 tho which is the wierdest part.

I wonder if Win7 has written some wacky signature to the disk that causes earlier OSes to misinterpret the FS and report it back as Raw ?

Try an Ubuntu live CD and see what it reports back ?

That could have been it Hodders but I gave up in the end and reinstalled 2k3 to see if it sorted it and it did. God knows why but whatever lol. I wouldnt be surprised if they did introduce some unnecessary crap into the win7 filesystem to confuse us but I suppose they cant have if it worked after a reinstall.
