Continuing on from this thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17539244

I have got a new hdd, and managed to put a fresh xp install on (after some via/SATAII issues ...), used Testdisk, which is pure *GENIUS*, and it seems I have recovered all of my data.

But, and there had to be a but, the recovered hdd data/partition still isn't bootable. This leaves me unable to access my profile from that disk ie
Code:
Documents and Settings\Tom\*

This is what happens:
denied.jpg

I think it is because I added some sort of security - most likely this:
private.jpg

This is a problem because I want my outlook express messages and address book and firefox bookmarks etc.

Does anyone know of a way to get around this? Please? :)

This is because the SIDs (unique security IDs for each user account or group) are only usable on the PC that created them and your PC doesn't recognise them. So you must add your own SIDs back to the protected resource.

Turn off "Use simple file sharing" in Explorer's Folder Options.

Then right click on the folder that's giving you that error and visit its Properties. Then click the Security tab (hopefully no error will occur.) Click the Add button and type in your username on the local PC and click OK. Your username should now appear on the list. Tick the Full Control privilege box and then click Apply and OK.

You should now have access again to that directory.
