it just seems to be luck of the draw where u are tbh and i think that maybe only if you have a new model modem e.g ntl 250 (the small blue one)

Wouldn't be too sure about that, Swansea and a few places in Essex are on trial, I've been watching the progress at ntlhell forum, still hope they sort upload out though I'd rather stay at 10mb as I am with 1mb up than get 20mb down 768kbs up any day!

you shouldnt be on 1mb up  it should be 512kb...

Me?

My point is I'd rather have 1mb up than the 20mb down, not I am on 1mb up?

Sorry was that confusing :D

sounded ok to me.....

Yeah, 768kbit upload is kinda lame. As they are presumably trying to compete with LLU ADSL (Be etc) I would have thought it might have been 1mbit.

Depending on the transfers involved I'd imagine 20mbit download could grab a small chunk of that 768kbit upload just for ACK packets.

Sadly I think ISPs are wary of offering home users high upload speeds due to the possibility of them running servers, together with the explosion of P2P activity in recent years.

I'd be happy to see some kind of traffic shaping on upload for certain times of traffic, provided there was a decent increase (1mbit+) and FTP was unaffected.
