I got a 4mb NTL Cable.. had it for about 2 months now. But i seem to get quite bad pings..

I ran a speed test (Dan Elwells thingy) it said:

Average ping to UK servers is 50-60ms.. with 1 spiked at 200ms.. (30ms is what i should get)

Download rate = 1460 kbps.. i should get 4000kbps..

EDIT: When i tested downlaods from E and East coast USA i get 2000-2300kbps.. which is better than the UK servers! WTF ?

I also get faster than expected pings to USA .. 90-100ms

Is the speed test quite accurate? Or will i never get that ping / download rate? My xbox is always lagging on servers and seems to take an ages to downlaod any demos etc..

Advise?

Something looks wrong there, you should be getting approximately 4000 kbits/sec on a 4mb connection.

Some good news..

After a lengthy discussion with NTL tech support basically informed me that East -Midlands Server (Notts Based) is extremely over used.. But it due for a large upgrade an and fix on the 21/11/2006..

So should see some major speed boost shortly after that period but until then it might get a lot worse :rolleyes:

But at least its a good sign..

I'm on the Notts (I believe it maybe the Clifton one :/ as it's xxxx-clif4-x-x-custxxx.nott.cable.ntl.com) server and running a test on speedtest.net (UK server) regularly reaches top speed (~1.2MB/s) a tad under 10Mbit. Mind you, the internet tonight is fairly sluggish! Just tried it now and got 1.18MB/s which is around 8/9Mbps I reckon.

Try speedtest.net and see what you get with them.

650kbps download.. :S so pretty rubbish and 340kbps upload .. which is about right.

@nintenjo

I hope you asked for a reduction in your bill for this poor service speed that you are recieving,as you are not getting what you are paying for..

Totally agree if you are paying leased line business rates then you should be compensated accordingly, thing is if you were the likelihood is you'd be paying more for your net connection that your mortgage/rent each month. Home connections are not a guaranteed SLA/Speed service sadly not to mention terms like up to and variation that litter your average ISP T&C's.

They will in all fairness proabably give you some form of goodwill in relation to this though.
