Hi,

Has anyone's NTL broadband connection gone a bit slow over the past few days? Mine seems to have, although I didn't really notice it till today. I have the 4mb connection and at the minute it only seems to be managing under 1mb connection speed. Average download speed is down to about 60-65kb/s, which is very slow considering I should be getting at least a 400kb/s download speed! I asked my mate who lives on the other side of town and he reckons he's getting about 200kb/s download speed which is still half what it should be. I've tried a few broadband speed tests which confirm it.
I've looked on NTL's service status page which mentions a possible loss of service in Oxford this morning which is about 30 miles away but nothing around here. I know NTL is getting a new webpage and all that but it couldn't slow down service as well could it?

Cheers, Tony :)

Ive just had 4mb ntl installed today give me a download link that you get slow speeds with, which normally give u 500 ish and ill test what i get

First gave me 2.1 megabits per second.

Second 3437kbps

First site has always been dodgey for me tho mate even on last isp

To test your download speed, try Here

Just pick a biggish file (e.g BF1942 demo) and see what your download speed is. I find it a good way to see if my connection is slow - i'm with blueyonder.

Thanks. I can't do the first one again as it says I can only try three test a month on this ip number. The second one gave me 3474 which sounds like it's getting close.

I just had a go and it averaged between 395-410 kb/s. Getting better! Cheers. :D

Oh dear, ive just been recomended a netgear as well. I guess now i should avoid them on my ntl 4mb?

Still stuck as to which router to choose :(

I've used a Belkin 4-port router with a wireless access point for a while on my blueyonder 4mb connection. No problems as far as wireless goes with Belkin for me.

Even their Wireless router is pretty good (in my experience).

Try Here . The first 2 - i use the 2nd on that page with a wired Belkin 4-port router.

I was looking at this one. Nearly every other site had reviews saying avoid this router as it overheats and crashes all the time after about 3 months :(

I've deffinately noticed a drop in browsing speed, i'm tested my 10mb download and all seems to be well but general surfing is painfully slow. Problem with dns?

When i posted here i was new to NTL. Since then my 4mb servies has been lagging me out of wow a lot. High pings.

And now when i try that bf demo download ive only been getting 200/230 all week, i used to get 400/500.

Anyone else having problems recently?

I have a netgear router and NTL 10meg. I have just downloaded the BF1942 demo in about 2 mins. There is nothing wrong with Netgear.

I've got NTL 4mb also, I just tried downloading the BF1942 demo again and was getting around 400kb/s on average. That's pretty good, but I'm sure it should still be a bit higher - I seem to remember getting around 460kb/s up until a while ago. If it keeps up at this 400kb/s speed then I think I might get onto NTL (or is it VirginMedia now?) and try and find out what's going on. :)

 I think i'm on the 2mb base package. I definately noticed a slow down over the last couple of days, web browsing has become painful, and my connection is lost occasionally. I wonder if these problems are caused by Richard Branson??
