NTL dropping packets... Surfboard logs inside.

as i mentioned here last night, my connection keeps dropping every so often for about 15 seconds, not enough to kill my net but enough to make it impossible for me to game online.

i just wonderd if anyone had any theories on why its doing this and what the logs mean...

On NTL here, its their end mate, it happens from time to time, but mainly on weekends...... ironic....

Its been fine last week or so though (touch wood).....

Moan at them enough and you'll get this month's bill half price... ;) trust me i never get off the phone with them after internet troubles without getting some form of discount....

Lately though i really just can't be a**ed to deal with them...... and its working (touch wood again).

p.s. i know how you feel, try playing battlefield and having the connection drop out just 5 tickets from the end of the round you're winning...... :(
 
I've had packetloss and ping spikes for a couple of months now, mainly at peak time (evenings).

Got an engineer to come round a week or so back but when he tested (daytime) it wasn't too bad and he claimed readings were fine.

I think if you live in certain areas where things are overloaded, NTL is pretty bad as a gaming isp. I've got no real complaints on speed as I nearly always get 1200k/sec but I'd gladly halve that for a stable 10ms ping with 0pl instead of the 7-200ms, 5-30% pl I get.

Think I'm gonna phone up and cancel, should be within my rights despite only being 6 months into contract as they have announced a price increase :)
