help guys.

i have a ntl home 100 cable modem connected to a computer via the usb cable. i have another computer connected to it via a NIC.

i can get the internet on the computer that connects to the modem via usb, but i cant get the 2nd computer to connect to the internet.

both computers can see each other, i can see shared files / folders on both computers.

but no matter what i do i cant get the internet to work on the 2nd computer, any ideas??

best regards

ps ran the ms ICS wiz several times and also manually configured it....

You have both machines connected to the modem, or modem -> PC 1 -> PC 2?
Firewalls?
Output from start, run, cmd, ipconfig /all (right click, mark, select, enter, paste at will)?

thanks for the reply mate.

the cable modem is connected to computer 1 via the usb connection on the modem.

computer 2 is connected to computer 1 via LAN

i have turned all the firewalls off, and set ICS on the modem.

its a m8's computer so i can't get the ip config info at the moment.

any ideas??

best regards

Don't turn the firewalls off. This will leave your mate exposed to hackers from the outside world. Much better to tell us what the Firewall is, then open up the firewall to "trust" your local network.

ICS "should" be all you need to turn the first computer into a router. Though I would always advise the purchase of a dedicated router as it is so much more reliable, removes the extra load from the computer, and is much more secure. :)

i know turning off all the firewalls is leaving him open, thats why i turned them back on....

so from what i can gather what i have done "should" of worked.

best regards
