Hey Guys

Just a quickie...

Is it possible to swap an ntl modem with another newer ntl modem thats come from a different house?

Basically have a friend that has one of the original ntl modems but its started to overheat and all internet just dies after so long but we haven't got time to order a replacement from VM due to going away in a couple of days.

Thanks in advance

Erm, unless it's already on an active account on the same street probably not.

IIRC they won't register a modem unless they've sent it out, and theoretically you're not meant to move them from one house to another (but it can work if you're both fed from the same street cabinet and the modem is currently active).

I know for example back in the olden days when my original modem died I was able to borrow my brother in laws modem to test my line (he lived literally just down the road).

I would certainly ring Virgin up re the dying modem, as they might surprise you and get it out pretty quickly
We had to have a new one delivered the other day due to the psu on the old one being dodgy (apparently they can't just send out the psu), it arrived within about 48 hours of the replacement request being entered on their system.
I think they used ups as the courier.

I upgraded from 4 to 20 meg and my NTL modem could not handle it, I got a new modem within 5 days.. I did have to call them and get it registered as well...

hmmm, thats what i thought might be the case

We'll give ntl a ring and see what they say, if they could get one out today we may get it tomz or sat (though if its a courier which it probs will, only tomorrow)

Thanks for the replies guys :)
