NTl problems

Hi all, anybody aware of any problems on NTL in S.Wales?

Im getting

Date 05/07/09 16:31:00
Speed Down 164.52 Kbps ( 0.2 Mbps )
Speed Up 466.15 Kbps ( 0.5 Mbps )

Cant really browse either DNS is terrible!
Tried open DNS but still take 2-3 min to load page i should be on 20MB package
I have tried without router to test fairly and with 2 PC's and 1 laptop results are the same!
I have also rebooted the Modem
I rarley download but noticed yesterday downlaoding nvidia drivers took 52min!
Any suggestions?

Anyone have the right number to call in NTL?

Called NTL they say they say up too 20MB and dont gurantee!

Im getting 85KB download! LOL not even 1% of 20mb is it? Jeeeeez

do you have an old NTL router (silver i think) or the new small black ones...

there is an issue with the old routers, they cannot handle the higher speeds but do work a bit..

I had this issue when I upgraded from 4mb to 20mb... worked fine at 4mb but at 20mb it was soooo slow but did work.

Took a while of talking to different people for someone to say 'yer there is an issue with all older routers' got a new smaller black router and all worked fine.
 
Yea i do i have the silver model...

Ill ring them tongith now and see if they will send out new one....

Will ther ebe issues witht he MAC etc?

I remeebr when i moved house i was offline for 2 months with the MAC issue!

Been with them 11 years and hardly no problems... gutting

Don't phone them, post a message on their internal newsgroup:
virginmedia.support.broadband.cable

The guys at the Indian call centre have no technical knowledge, they just work from a script.

The people on the support newsgroup will be able to test your connection remotely or ask you to perform diagnostic tests to determine the problem.

I tried psoting last night but got 440 posting not permited!

Any ideas?

I have rung another twice before i noticed your post :( first time they said my modem is broke and need new one.... 2nd time i rang to ask where modem was they said what modem?

Great went through it all again and same again they say i need new modem and one will be with me today... "apparently"

Any ideas of the newsgroup post?
 
Success!

New Router arrived rang NTL Swapped the MAC over to new Router.
Ran speed test got 9.98mb DL and 500K upload.

Apparently i only have L i swear i pay for XL... will check!

Anyway anything is better than 20K! :)

ta for the help lads...
