NTL speed / usage increases - June 1

that would be fine, I am currently on the 2mb. I wonder what the 1mb will go to - I get nagged to downgrade/save money!

wonder if they may shoot themselves in the foot here at 10mb users downgrade to 4mb
 
Any ideas if they will then replace the modems that aren’t capable of getting the full 10Mbit. I'm currently on the 2Mbit and have been considering going to the full 10Mbit option for a while now, the only thing that stops me is that I have one of the old NTL 100 cable modems that I've had for about 4-5 years now.
 
It certainly looks like this is the way forward, they have a cheap package a middle package and a top package, the cost doesn't change but the speed does.

I thought that something would be happening as the 1, 2 ... 10 was bit of a leap!
 
Potential traffic shaping, now that's not good. Thankfully I've got both ADSL and cable so at least I can get a pretty reasonable service out of two crippled services combined ;)
 
Most ISP's are going the way of traffic shaping. As long as it is implemented sensibly then im pretty happy with that. I.E Be able to hammer my newsgroups between 2 and 7 am and be more restricted during peak hours and allow for normal traffic. I also think they should only do it "where needed" i.e where other customers are impacted. I think thats pretty fair.

If true that would be rather funny. With the NTL/TW merger, all the doom-mongers were predicting that TW would "inherit" the NTL capped services, whereas it now looks like NTL may follow Telewest's lead with the 10MB service :)
 
Hmm interesting. Been thinking of leaving NTL recently as they don't really seem like great value for money anymore but not so sure now.

my ntl100 works fine on 10mb mate;)
 
Without sounding thick - what is traffic shaping? I assume it is a 'speed' restriction at busy times, am I right?

and restriction on certain types of download P2P , newsgroups etc during busy times
