Im in the process of sorting out my living room and getting all the cables hidden behind the plaster board etc.

I want to connect my NTL set top box to my denon AV receiver and then use the component output from the av receiver to connect to the lcd tv.

The denon doesnt have scart input, and the stb only has scart output.

I was thinking of using a breakout cable going from scart on the stb to composite in on the av receiver which will then upscale to component for output to the lcd tv.

What do you think?
Would i loose much quality this way?.

Yeah the denon does have component input, didnt think that scart output everything for component conversion?

Will a rgb scart to component work ok?

Composite output from the STB then upscaling to Component is a bad idea - you will get a crappy picture out of the STB then upscale the crappy picture.

Go with the RGB to Component convertor as suggested above.
